We had just bought the car a few months ago and heard the alarm going off in the garage. We would lock the car and close the door, then the alarm would sound. We called a local dealership (Boardwalk Volkswagen) and they recommended coming in to have a diagnostic run. The results showed a faulty trunk latch, which itself cost over $180. The replacement ran around $250 total. The next week, after a heavy storm, the same thing began happening. Took it back in for a free replacement. The service rep informed us it could be caused by a leak in the seal, but I should point out that this is the revised hatch. The VW badge does NOT rotate on this model to reveal the handle. It simply has an electronic latch.
