Apparently Volkswagen don't cover accessories such as this so the dealer says. The dealer replaced three of them up to this date at no charge to me.
My gripe is that I'm not game to use it to store my glasses as I know the latch will break. It is a wasted accessory. If it keeps dropping down it becomes a head scaring problem because of it's position. It can't be left unfixed unless it is glued shut or replaced. I refuse to pay to have it replaced as it is a design flaw.
Update from May 27, 2018: I have had 5 of these since. but have now given up. The last one is closed and does not get used or touched. They are extremely flimsy and a insult to the vehicle.
