The passenger side seat belt locked up with me in its iron grip. I could not get out of it. Fortunately, I had a great Gerber pocket knife in my cargo shorts side pocket, and was able to get it and cut the belt close to the bolt that attaches it to the floor. I then was able to work the belt and get it to release. I actually repaired the belt with some webbing and some fantastic glue and clamps. It worked for about 10 days, then my wife was transporting her aged mother to the doctor, and it locked up on her. She kept a pair of scissors in the glove compartment and was able to free her mom.
Called Toyota. Had to bring it in to get the problem checked. It is a 20 mile trip one way. Then I had to bring it back a few days later once they got the new part (seat belt) in. It took about three hours of waiting for the installation, and a $429.00 repair bill since it was out of warranty.Over $400 for a seat belt is outrageous. Of course, I got the old trip back into the repair bays to see the mechanic, who pointed out a bunch of problems like my air induction system needed cleaning, and an after-market generator belt had some cracks. I told him it had just been replaced a few months earlier, and I was going to just keep it. No problems eight months later.
Enough of Toyota for me.
