I was on a camping trip in Wyoming, and I started my Tundra up on a chilly morning. It was running for about 5 minutes before I came back to it and entered the cab. Immediately upon entering I noticed a strange smell. I also noticed at that time that the driver-??s seat was extremely warm. I quickly shut off the heat warmer (original equipment on the truck). Inspecting the seat, I could see where the leather was just starting to melt. Luckily, I caught this in time, for if I would have left it longer, the vehicle could have caught fire. An online search discovered previous problems with Toyota seat warmers. My contact with Toyota was not helpful, for they simply told me that it was out of warranty, despite being a safety issue.
The seat heater control module has failed causing the plastic to burn and melt, nearly starting a fire. Toyota knows about this but refuses to issue a safety recall.
