Purchased brand new Tundra from Pinehurst Toyota in Southern Pines, NC. During test drive the steering wheel shook causing the whole truck to vibrate. The salesman told me the new trucks sit a while combined with the summer heat this causes a flat side in the tire. He promised to have the service department look at it, but said it would work itself out within 500 miles.
The issue did not "work itself out". The shaking is worse at lower speeds if the truck has sat for a couple hours. At lower speeds the shaking will reduce to lower levels after about 10 minutes of driving. At speeds over 35 MPH the shaking never stops, regardless of time driving. The steering wheel shakes, the passenger seat shakes, everything is vibrating and it gets worse as you approach 50-70 MPH. I can't measure it, but it also seems like the front end alignment drifts as well. Sometimes its perfect, while other times it feels like it's pulling to the right.
I took the truck back to them multiple times, every time I am told the tires were out of balance and it should be good now. They even did some sort of super heavy balance that they said resolved it. It didn't.
I missed one 5000 mile checkup with Toyota; mostly because I was tired of their BS. When I brought the truck in (still less than a year old) I reported the issue...again. They looked at it and told me the BF Goodrichs were worn (25000miles on truck) uneven, causing the truck to ride on a bead or something and needed replacement. This is what they said was causing the shake. Tires aren't covered by Toyota. They worked with BF Goodrich warranty and told me the they could get me a new set for $500. They said this would 100% resolve the issue. I argued the unusual tire wear was a result of the issue, but they didn't care. I paid the money, got the tires, and the issue is still there. No better, no worse.
Toyota will not support the issue. It's a crappy truck that drives like a broken down 1979 Nissan with a worn donut spare on the front.
