Hello, my name is [xxx] and I am contacting you regarding a recent safety issue my parents experienced. This is what happened: Driving down the freeway at 70 mph, my dad went to adjust his outside mirrors. When doing so, his finger brushed the "fold" button by accident, and the outdoor side mirrors folded in. He wasn't aware that he touched the button as he has never used this feature in the past. Needless to say they are now driving 70 mph in a very large truck and do not have a clear safe view as they have to change 4 lanes to exit the freeway and then navigate to a safe area to try to fix this issue. The following information has been copied and pasted from the owner's manual. " when you are heading into a narrow parking space or garage, press the "fold" button in the upper right corner of the side mirror controls, just to the left of the steering column. Both mirrors will fold in toward the side windows. To put them back into driving position, press the button again." It is my opinion that this feature is dangerous. The feature should only operate at an extremely slow rate of travel. This feature is only needed in tight parking spots and should not engage at high rates of speed. The owners manual even states not to drive the car with the mirrors folded. But if you do not know how they were engaged, how do you know how to rectify it while driving down the freeway at 70 mph? it is an accident and a lawsuit just waiting to happen. Thank you. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
