This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and making a left turn, the maintenance required warning light was illuminated. The contact then stated that after he made it to his destination, he checked under the hood of the vehicle and noticed that the power steering pump was leaking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front power coolant line and an unknown gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacture was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. The consumer stated there was a recall but was not covered at the dealer due to the power coolant line not being covered. The vehicle was repaired at Autobody shop at the owners expense.
Gloss coating on steering wheel has cracked in multiple areas, handling of the vehicle has become uncomfortable. Most recent crack is about 2mm wide and goes all around the wooden gloss part of the steering wheel and I feel that if this continues my steering wheel will become unsafe to drive due to the unevenness and possibly cause some pieces to fall off my steering wheel.
Horn stopped working. Realized it will work only when steering wheel is turned. Fuse are good. Dangerous not having horn operable. Two close call accidents where I could not warn other driver.
The steering wheel wood portion is starting to crack in 2 different places. Asked Toyota services if they had ever seen one cracking. Answer was no. Only remedy is change the steering wheel ($$)
Driving at 60 mph the vehicle started to shake. Felt wobbly. The kind of feeling when driving on flat tires. Did not stop even when I slowed down had to pull over to shoulder. Wobbling intensified as I drove. Problem occurred again on January 1st (three times in one night) and on January 25th 2015. I have complained to Toyota. Case number is [xxx]. their response is they have no way of letting me know if others have complained about this problem before or if they have known about the problem. There are quite a few references to that problem online dating way back as 2007.
