At about 50k miles I had my brakes serviced at a Toyota dealer (Bedford, Ohio). Had new pads replaced on all 4 wheels, had the rear rotors replaced and the brake fluid flushed. The front calipers were replaced, but those were covered under my Toyota Extended warranty ($0). The front rotors were just "re-surfaced". As soon as the next morning, the first 2-3 times I applied the brakes they "squealed" like crazy... It was enough to wake up my neighbors... It was embarrassing. It would need a moderate pressing of the brakes to make the noise go away. It mostly only did it in the morning. I thought being new brake pads there was a "break in period". So I gave it a month. After a month, I took a video of the squealing and showed the Toyota service writer. His reply was "O ya, they all SQUEAL like that, even on our $80k new Land Cruiser's" - Hum? (If my brand new $80k Land Cruiser did that, I would be making one "U" turn back to the dealer to get my check back).
After another month or so I took it in again because this was not normal, now I was starting to get a vibration in the front brakes too. I went right to the service manager and demanded a service tech look it over. I let the service tech see my video of the noise... I couldn't tell if it was the front, rear or both brakes. WELL, they came out and said there is ongoing issue with the compatibility of the Toyota brake pad material with the rotors. He said Toyota has reformulated the brake pad material for the front brakes. They will go ahead and swap those out, and they will replace the front rotors (free of charge). The "reformulated" rear brake pads are not available for rear another 2-3 months (Dec 2019). He said when you come in for your next oil change, we should have them in. With the fronts swapped out it now only squeals very slightly....and no vibration from the front rotors.
So that first service writer, was just blowing me off... It was not until I returned a few months later and talked to the service manager, did he say they have other Tundra owners having the same issue. He asked for my video, so he can forward it to Toyota.
