I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra 5.7, R-Cab, LB, SR-5, 4x4 that I bought new on 8/30/08. Since I am a low-mileage driver, I had the first oil & filter change done at the nearest Toyota service facility on 2/25/09. The mileage at that time was 1,457.
The service facility told be they refilled the crankcase with 5W-20 dino oil but didn't specify the brand.
Yesterday, 10/3/09, odometer reading 2,560, planning to take it it in for its second service, I checked the oil level. I showed down one quart, to the lower mark on the dipstick. (The oil at the bottom of the dipstick was clean and still new-looking.)
I added one quart of Quaker State 5W-20 and plan to take it to that same Toyota facility very shortly. I will supply my own Mobil-1 0W-20.
Should I complain about the vehicle eating an entire quart of oil over 7 months and only 1,103 miles of driving? What could be the cause? No smoke from the exhaust, so it's not burning oil. A lemon issue, or is it due to my low mileage driving habit?
