There was a definite progression...first the clear coat went on the wheel cowlings - so I used plasti-kote matte black to 'fix" while adding the same along the lower portions of the door panels. Not a bad fix or look against the dark green or the recently powder-coated rims (dark silver).
Then the roof went...and it went fast. As soon as the clear peeled, the base green paint dulled and within 3 months - the south Florida sun turned the roof to almost rust. Around this time, the hood began to develop cracks/paint splintering away from the metal..I took to a paint shop..they wanted $350 to respray the hood and wouldn't be worth painting the roof in his because of the labor needed (take a roller to it he said...?) So, I took a weekend, wire wheeled the roof, primed and rattled canned it.
Its been 3 months and the Flat black Rustoleum is hanging in there pretty well..the hood...well..I'm going to have to bring that it in to get done. the chipping is getting worse and although the clear isn't peeling. it has begun turning a dull foggy green.
In hindsight...I probably needed to have addressed the problem the minute it began. It is an was a 11year old Florida sun-drenched truck..but mechanically sound. The life of the paint should have been better..it had been well taken care over the years
