2007 Toyota Tundra. Consumer writes in regards to oil leak around manifold and camshaft and water pump leaking. Consumer sent additional correspondence. Smd
Turned the truck on and the check engine and traction control lights were both on, 4 lo and vsc off lights were both flashing, the truck sounded noticeably louder and now has a loss of power. Codes show P2440.
#25701-38060 emission valve set & clip failed. Vehicle started having hesitation (limp mode) issues....becoming not drivable. It cost our company time and money. It had to be repaired a second time the next year....June 29, 2010. Toyota is letting customers pick up the repair costs for their mis-design. Service depts., both at sioux city ia & Lincoln ne, stated this had been happening to other customers regarding this issue on the 2007 Tundra.
My vehicle set a dtc P2440 for the secondary air induction valve stuck open. I have been told this repair is not covered under warranty due to water intrusion. The only problem is that my vehicle has never been under water or off road. This is a design flaw/engineering defect that Toyota created and should be treated as a recall for all affected models for replacement for a better or redesigned part. The cost of replacement for the affected parts is beyond reasonable for all Toyota owners. Toyota needs to step up and fix there flaw. I pulled out onto a public road and had no power and was nearly involved in an accident due to this problem. Its not safe and very dangerous.
1st week of April, 2011, 2007 Tundra went into "limp" mode, hooked up tester, said P2442 code. Common problem, on these trucks, from what dealer told me. Ordered parts, at that time. $1500 of parts ordered. Took 9 weeks, to get parts. A very dangerous truck to drive, with this situation. Can't park it, to wait 9 weeks, for parts, still making payments. No power, dangerous on freeway, or any where else. Toyota was still sending new trucks, to be sold, when, they could have sent parts, to fix this very expensive, and dangerous problem. If this is an emissions issue, shouldn't a recall be made, and at least prts to fix, be reimbursed? have purchased 5 new Toyota, for family and business, over last 10 years, will look elsewhere, next time I trade. I went from domestic, to Toyota, for the same reason, 10 years ago. Now Toyota is acting like Ford and GM, did, at that time./ will buy GM or Ford next time. Toyota has treated me like crap, at the dealer level, and on the corporate level. These parts are only covered 3 year/36,000 miles. Toyota knows that these parts, are defective!! if the parts are smog related, need to have a recall!!

I am the owner of a 2007 Toyota Tundra and while driving cross country with my wife and 2yr daughter the truck automatically went into limp mode while driving 65 mph and stopped dead almost causing an accident.trouble codes were pulled and found to be air injection valves for emission control upon startup only.this was midway thru a 2300 mile trip.truck has 67000 miles on it and it out of warranty so cost to me is between 4000-5000 $.truck should not enter limp mode while driving as it is just a matter of time before an accident occurs.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vsc-off, four wheel drive low, check engine and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact began to drive the vehicle but the vehicle exhibited far less power than normal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told that the air injection pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer on various occasions where it was repaired. The repairs failed to remedy the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and assisted with the repair costs. The failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 79,500.
Failed inspection code P2440,2441 took to Toyota dealer checked P2240.need to replace air pump, air switch valve bank and bank 2.cost $2700. This is second time failed. Last year air pump failed. Toyota dealer estimated $4000 replace. I did buy air pump ang replace it, cost me $ 1100. Mileage were 69329 and this time 101,450.

The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and the dealer advised her that the pump and the valve set would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and offered to pay for fifty percent of the repair costs. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
Sudden decrease in power, dash lights come on drove to dealer ship, they said it was the air intake valve that was bad they said it was a common problem they said moisture builds up and makes the intake valve stick they replaced the valve at a cost of $1,682 had I been merging on to the highway this could have been very dangerous for the vehicle will only power up to 35 miles per hour.
Air injection system failure causes a check engine light to appear and can cause the vehicle to go into "cripple" mode limiting throttle and speed to 40 mph which could be a serious safety concern in some driving conditions. Dealer stated they are "fixing" ~2 vehicles a day and replacing the air injection pumps and valves for a total cost of ~$4000 if the vehicle is not under warranty anymore. In my case, the dealer replaced one pump a week ago and now the second pump has failed ($1100 for each pump). There has not a design change to the pumps or valves in the system with the replacement parts so the failure will happen again in another 30-50K miles. Dealer claims moisture in the system is causing the problems. A quick google search on the problem shows the problem is systemic with 2007+ Tundra and sequoias with the 5.7L V8. Other manufactures use an air injection system with a much lower cost and there does not seam to be any problems with them.
My truck suddenly lost about 80% of its power and would hardly accelerate. Very difficult to merge into traffic. Dealer said this was due to failure of the "secondary air intake valve." This appears to be very common in 2007 Toyota Tundra.
Air pump is full of water. Dealer emptiest, it fills back up. Dealer has no explanation as to cause. Vehicle runs sluggishly. Need to allow extra time when merging into traffic due to poor acceleration. Dealer wants $3000 to replace unit.
Toytota Tundra 2007 speed went from 60 mph to under 20 mph. Car has since be diagosed with defective air flow handler, dealership wants me to pay $5,000 to repair this part. This situation caused a life threatening situation on the highway. This repair should be done at the cost of the manufacturer since the truck only has 63,000 miles on it.
Vehicle hard to stop with A/C or headlights on. Engine idles normally 5-600 RPM, until parking lights or A/C is turned on. Then it idles at 800 RPM in gear. Sometimes it feels like you've been rear ended, after coming to a stop. If driving surface is slippery and put into gear with head lights on, the rear tires will begin to spin, without touching the accelerator. This is a daily occurence that has been taken to different Toyota dealers with no relief. All they can say is that the computer says everything is okay. Turning the parking lights on does not cause enough load on the engine to warrant the extra 200 or more RPM. The other day ( 01/26/2010 ) I was turning around in a muddy driveway and while idling I turned the steering wheel to the left. I let my foot off the brake and the truck went straight, even as I applied the brakes, leaving two big ruts through my friends yard. This was caused by the ground being slippery and the high idle speed. I am sure that this will cut down on the life of the brakes. 4.7 V8 engine
The 2007 Toyota Tundra double cab with 5.7 liter engine was experiencing vehicle traction control system malfunctions. After replacement of wiring harness, traction control ECU, wheel speed sensors the problem was not corrected. A factory technician was brought in to look over the vehicle. The factory technician informed me that the cause of the problems with my truck were because several sensors had lost calibration due to the battery being disconnected. There is no information in the owners manual nor any warning signs on the vehicle that provide any cautionary statements to the owner or a service provider that disconnecting the battery may result in the loss of calibration of sensors in the vehicle. Toyota motor corporation has clarified that this information is only in the factory service manual. A review of several Toyota repair procedures, which require the battery to be disconnected contain no warning to check sensor calibration. The traction control system is one of the major safety systems of this vehicle. When it fails, the operator may loose throttle and braking control. I have had this vehicle shut down the throttle while I was trying to accelerate from a stop sign at an intersection, thus nearly causing a T-bone collision.
