Tundra SR5 V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,500 miles

Have taken the truck only to the Toyota dealer for service since purchasing it brand new in July 2007. Experienced the bump in the rear feeling when coming to a stop since the first month of ownership. Mentioned problem to dealer who said nothing found. Sticky fluid leak from engine compartment at 25,000 miles, dealer replaced defective water pump under warranty. Sticky fluid still observed from under vehicle, dealer again said nothing wrong with truck. Took truck in for 40,000 mile service and informed dealer still noticing sticky fluid leak of some sort from under truck. Now dealer states the REAR YOKE is bad on drive shaft, causing the leak and informing me the truck is nine months out of warranty (at 40,000 miles?) and they can replace DRIVE SHAFT for $1,500. I am the original owner of the truck which has never been abused or towed anything. Maintenance has been performed as scheduled only at the Toyota dealer. I have owned eight Toyota vehicles since becoming a licensed driver and never experienced this type of issue with any other Toyota. Informed the service writer that I HAD asked them every time vehicle was serviced about the sticky fluid leak, they failed to diagnose it conveniently after the warranty expired?? When picking up the truck from the dealer I noticed that nothing had been NOTED about his diagnosis on my paperwork - I requested that the bill be rewritten by them to NOTE their diagnosis of the rear yoke being bad and the need to replace the drive shaft. I told them I would t contact Toyota about this issue and expect them to cover the repair - the service writer said GOOD LUCK! Integrity in the auto repair business is LACKING sadly even at the local Toyota dealership. Needless to say, if Toyota refuses to make good on a KNOWN defective drive train - I have bought my last Toyota! I hope this is not the case!!!

Tundra SR5 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles

When stopping for a traffic light/stop sign from 40-50MPH, the truck stops normally. After about 1.5 seconds when at a complete stop, the truck gives a kick. It is severe enough that it feels as if you had been rear ended. The whole truck shutters. I took it in to the Dealership who gives the, "I can't duplicate it" spiels. My tranny fluid was low due to a leaking rear seal so they blamed it on that. They changed the aluminum front driveshaft as they stated it caused the leak. Problem never went away. Does not happen at any other time. Suspect the first gear clutch packs are releasing and re-engaging. Could be mechanical but it is also a possible problem with the transmission ECU.

Tundra SR5 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,000 miles

After coming to stop, truck jolts from differential or drive shaft. Seems to be getting worse. Reported it to Toyota service and was told this is normal for this model. Sometime notice it when almost stopping then accelerating.
