Bought vehicle used from Toyota dealer. Didn't happen on 5 minute road test. Happened next day after 20 minutes driving. Took to dealer. Has been duplicated. Told it's normal by Toyota.
I've been a certified technician, a service advisor, an automotive shop foreman, and a service manager for auto dealerships for 33 years. This is not normal.
Three weeks after purchasing this truck from a Toyota dealer the CEL came on. Diagnosed by Toyota as a common problem with the EGR system in this vehicle it would be $2200 to repair. After long discussions concerning my short ownership and that I had already purchased 3 other Toyotas from this dealer, they agreed to help out and it cost me $500 to repair the problem.
If this loading up of the rear end, or bad trans mount and cross frame set up, or whatever other "normal condition" that exists creates another major cost repair, I will be very unhappy. Even though the vehicle has 163,000 miles on it, 5,000 since purchase, it will be the last Toyota ever parked in my drive.
If this was an isolated incident I would not be concerned, but it happens every day at almost every stop. Don't tell me that nothing will fatigue with all of the metal parts involved.
If anyone would like to discuss this further contact me through the web form and I'll be very happy to speak with you on a much more personal level.
