The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in for the state inspection, it was discovered that the subframe had sustained severe rusting and corrosion causing the vehicle to fail the state inspection. The cause of the rusting and corrosion was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously treated with a rust inhibitor coating, but the failure still occurred. The failure mileage was 311,000.

Was taking it to have its oil changed and noticed a small puddle of oil under the rear axle setting in my driveway when I took it back to the dealer I ask them to check the rear axle to see were the oil was coming from they told me that the axle housing had rusted through Toyota wont cover it under warranty because warranty dosnt cover rust and it is going to cost me $3600 for them to fix it. To me I think this is a bunch of bull this truck only has 70192 miles on it there is no way this should of rusted out causing a major safety issue if I didn't notice this the rear axle could have lost all of its oil causing a major malfunction the axle could of locked up broke the axle causing to loose controll creating a bad accident they say it dosnt cover rust but yet I got a recall notice to bring it in to have the frame inspected for extreme rust corrosion. This dosnt make much sence to me they will cover the rusty frame which is great but they wont cover the rusted out rear axle that could cause a catastrophic accident as well as the frame.
I noticed around August 2006 one rust spot on the body of my 2005 Tundra, these grew to about 12 spots by 2007 and now I have about 15 small rust spots, the largest about the size of a quarter. They start out bubbling up the paint until the paint corrodes and falls off and the problem gets bigger. After several attempts to get Toyota to correct this (from October 2007 until now June 2008) I am attempting to warn all buyers to beware of the possible problem, and be aware of the promises you get from the van trow Toyota dealers from monroe, la. I was asked to give them a couple of months to "get to it, they were too busy", then I was told that mother nature has done this, ,, in general, getting the run-around. This truck was parked in my carport, washed every two weeks, and still smells and looks new on the inside. I only have 23,000 on this truck, it was bought June 30, 2005. Yes, they are getting the warranty to run out. Can someone advise me who to complain to besides NHTSA? thanks
