The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. While approaching a stop at less than 5 mph, the contact lost control of the steering. He managed to pull the vehicle over and had it towed to the dealer. The dealer stated that the rack and pinion separated from the frame and was unable to be repaired because the frame was rusted. The contact believes that the frame should not be rusted out because the vehicle is only eight years old. The VIN and engine size were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 135,000.
Rack and pinion steering failure, causing front tires to wear excessively. Front brakes would grab/vibrate when vehicle got hot, and brakes were applied. Vehicle been in dealer shop on several occasions, and informed consumer that nothing was wrong. Vehicle taken to an independent repair shop, and it informed consumer of rack and pinion steering problem. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
