The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that upon investigation, he became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V444000 (Structure). The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the frame to be replaced due to corrosion. The dealer informed the contact several unknown components needed to be repaired before the recall repair could be performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. While searching for the spare tire, the contact was unable to locate the tire and realized that the tire had fallen off and the rear cross member was corroded. The vehicle was taken to mendenhall auto center (8725 mallard street, juneau, ak 99801) and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was also taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear cross member was completely corroded and no longer structurally sound. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09V444000 (structure) due to the vehicle being registered in Alaska. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000. Updated 11/02/17

I was recently doing some routine repairs on my 2000 Tundra and noticed the left rear frame rail & spare tire crossover has very severe rust damage. On 9/21/2011 this 2000 Tundra was inspected for frame rust by a local Toyota dealership. I asked the tech what was the method for inspection, he replied they would hit the frame with a hammer in three to four areas, if they were unable to punch a hole in the frame it passed inspection. The spare tire was not removed to inspect the spare tire crossover. The left rear frame area (where the worst damage is on my frame) is not accessible to hit with a hammer with the spare tire in place. Toyota & the dealership is denying any responsibility in this matter. I believe that if this frame was in good shape in 2011 it should still be road worthy today (it is not) I know that I am not the only Tundra owner that is having this problem. Toyota needs to stand behind their products, they knew that these frames were going to continue to fail, I now have a truck with an above average body perfect interior and a well maintained drive train that is basically worthless. Toyota should have been required to replace these frames when they discovered this problem. What will it take to resolve this problem injury or worse death? I have been driving Toyota's since 1984, this is first time the frame failed before the rest of the vehicle. And now I hear the are having frame rust problems with later model Tundra's & Tacoma's.

Rear brake line and proportioning valve failed causing the braking of the vehicle to be unsafe while driving on a local interstate roadway. The corrosion of the rear cross member is a known recall (see attached) NHTSA campaign id: 09V444000 recall date: 2009-11-18 which I just found today while searching for a proportional valve replacement part! our VIN is showing 0 recalls, but this cannot be ignored due to a VIN! due to the corrosion, special steps will need to be taken by the repair shop to even fix this problem. Living in Pennsylvania, driving on winding, steep hills is even more of a reason that this recall should not be VIN specific. I am asking that the repairs needed to my vehicle (brake linings and proportional valve must be replaced!) be covered by the manufacturer recall that is still in place until 2019. Component affected in this recall: Structure: Frame and members:underbody shields how can a specific VIN be excluded when it poses a risk factor and possibility of a fatal crash! please help us reach out to the manufacturer to include this VIN in the recall.

After inspection, it was discovered that the cross member spare tire holder was corroded through the frame. In addition, the spring fractured the frame and caused the rear axle to move on the driver side. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. While the vehicle was being inspected, the inspector observed that the rear driver and passenger side of the frame were corroded. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was confirmed that the rear frame was severely corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 09V444000 (structure). The failure mileage was approximately 108,716. Updated 2/4/16 the consumer was informed by two Toyota dealers, the vehicle was too old repair. The consumer then received a call from another dealer, who stated they would repair the frame. However, there was a possibility it could take three months or longer. As of 1-6-16 the dealer still had the truck in their possession. Updated 04/6/16.

Received a recall notice from Toyota 9sm and A0F and took the truck to conklin cars salina, local Toyota dealership for the inspection. According to Toyota these recalls involve rust and corrosion of the frame, cross members, and fuel tank straps. Conklin cars tech stated no damage, conklin invoice #008916 dated Apr 09 2012. Jan 2015 I noticed a hole in the LH frame rail and that the rear fuel tank strap had rusted through and broke. I contacted conklin cars and the service manager looked at it again on Jan 30th 2015 and said that he had contacted their Toyota factory rep. About the issues. The service manager suggested that I should not drive this vehicle. The service manager called me the following week and told me that the factory rep. Said that the case was closed and Toyota would not do anything about the repair. I was also told that this recall was only for trucks that resided in northern states and this truck was sold in Missouri and Kansas. Looking at the frame it is evident to me that the frame has heavy corrosion, flaking rust and thinning of the frame rails. I have since replaced both fuel tank straps. I contacted Toyota customer service "[xxx]" told me that the case number was #1502062938 and that the repair was taken care of on Apr 23rd 2012 and was closed. I had explained that allegedly there was no damage according to the dealership in Apr 2012 and less than 3 years later the straps had rusted through and there were holes in the frame. At this rate of decay the frame will rust in half in less than 3 more years. E. I contacted Toyota and complained on Feb 20th 2015 and they opened a new case #[xxx] and she said a case manager would call. [xxx] M., case manager, Toyota customer care called Feb 26 and told me the vehicle was out of warranty and Toyota would not do anything. 2000 Toyota Tundra. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle severe corrosion recall notice...the consumer stated he called three dealers to have the recall performed. The first dealer stated there were no appointments available for an inspection, the second dealer stated there were no more parts available and they could not order any more. The third dealer stated they could help and the consumer made an appointment. However, a few days later the consumer received a call from the dealer requesting he return the loaner vehicle, or he would be charged. The dealer informed the consumer the truck had not been inspected and no repairs were performed, and they would call him when the recall was revised. On May 9, 2012, the consumer noticed the gas tank was hanging on the ground. The rear support strap had rusted through. While making the repairs, the consumer noticed rust flakes the size of softballs were falling off the frame...updated 08/01/13

I own a 2000 Toyota Tundra 4X4 limited access cab. I took it in to my local dealership on 4/26/2010 for unrelated servicing and because I was concerned about the amount of rust on the rear frame components. I had heard about the recall and assumed that they would tell me something. I was told that it was ok, and that I would be contacted when they have the anti-corrosive treatment ready. Today is 11/24/2010 and I have still heard nothing. Pieces of the frame rails continue to flake and fall off in sheets (some approximately 4 inches long and 1/16th of an inch thick or greater). I'm concerned about the structural integrity of this vehicle. I'm especially worried that the rear springs will give out while driving and cause injury or worse. NHTSA and usdot should look into this problem. Toyota needs to compensate owners of these vehicles as was done for the Tacoma that experienced the same failure. The rusting problem is much greater than just the rear cross-member.

On 24 Nov 09 Toyota issued a recall for 2000 Tundra pickups, regarding frame corrosion and particularly corrosion on the cross member that holds the spare tire. Although I read about this online, Toyota has yet to inform me by mail. On 24 March 2010 I took my truck in to berlin city motors in portland me for an inspection of this problem. They told me that my corrosion was not enough to warrant frame replacement, but that I would be notified of when to return for application of some sort of corrosion inhibiting gunk. Seven months later I heard nothing. I called Toyota customer services and began a complaint process. They said that they are still sending out recalls..almost a year later!!! they claim that they need info from the state of Maine regarding legality of applying corrosion inhibiting gunk on safely, and they need "other" permissions. It is my opinion that Toyota is stalling on this fairly simple recall, hoping to reduce the problem by attrition of older vehicles. I would appreciate info from NHTSA as to why Toyota is being allowed to take this long on a project that isn't exactly rocket science. My 2000 Toyota Tundra was recalled for frame corrosion and the truck sat in a Toyota dealership parking lot for 4 months until Toyota just decided this week that they are going to replace the rusted frame but they wouldn't guarantee this for free - they said they if anything else goes wrong while they are replacing the frame, that they may not pay for it and that I will have to. I find this completely unacceptable as this is a recall - why should I have to pay anything out of my pocket?

The under side of my 2000 Toyota Tundra is so badly rusted that I had to have the spare tire removed and my brake lines and all of my frame are rusted. The rust continues to flake and fall from the frame of the truck. I have brought it to my dealer and they said they would order a new cross member part to replace what is there however, I have not heard from the dealer because they have not heard from Toyota. I am afraid to drive my truck. There is way more rust than just to the cross member frame. The entire frame is badly rusted and has gone into the brake lines!

I purchased a 2000 Toyota Tundra with only 107K miles on the odo. This was just before Toyota announced a minor rust recall. I took the vehicle to the local Toyota dealership and to my surprise they told me that the entire frame was compromised. I have now been without a vehicle since the 28th of Dec because my low mileage truck was deemed unsafe for the road. Toyota has yet to offer a solution to this problem.

To whom it may concern, I own a 2000 4X4 limited Tundra which has a rust problem. Most of the underside of the vehicle has heavy surface rust. It also has a front body mount that is rusted and corroded the medal is flaking and peeling away. I took the vehicle to a Toyota dealer for inspection. The dealer told me that the frame has no perforation holes in it. Nothing they can do. In addition to all the rust I had to replace rear brake lines and rear parking brake assembly on both sides do to rust and corrosion. I called Toyota Corp to complain about these problems all they did was give me a case number. I also told them that the value of my vehicle has been compromised due to the rust. They will not do anything until holes are formed through the frame. I feel im caught between a rock and a hard place. Toyota did the right thing last year with the Tacoma having rust issues but doing nothing for Tundra owners.

Frame rails rusting excessive! metal flaking off in big chunks all along the entire frame. Including all the cross members and structure supports. I have been advised to limit the load and towing capacity of the truck, being afraid of failure and causing an accident.

The truck cannot pass inspection because of a rusted frame. There are holes (2"-3") in both side rails of frame, 3 of the crossmembers are rusted through, one of them totally disintegrated. The rear cross member is also carries the spare wheel, which eventually will fall off and may cause an accident. Rear brakelines are attached to this crossmember also, which may also be ruptured. Rear shackles for rear springs are almost rusted through and are very unsafe. No accident has happened yet, but vehicle in inoperable.
