This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I sat in my Tacoma with my son we heard a loud noise and the sunroof spontaneously shattered. Looks like it burst outwards. and there was glass on the windshield. Could have been really dangerous if the sunshade wasn't closed and even more dangerous if we were driving the vehicle at the time.
The passenger seatbelt light keeps blinking when seat belt is buckled and it says passenger airbag is off while there is someone in there and buckled up. This happens when parked or driving, we have unhooked the battery to try to reset it. No luck. I am afraid if we were to get in an accident the passenger airbag would not deploy.
Apple iphone xr will not stay connected vis bluetooth. Unable to use hands free. I have to use my phone and vehicle for work. Toyota care rep says ' we'll let you know when we find a fix'
Bluetooth handsfree doesn't work with truck and iphone. Talking to Tacoma, they said that their system cant keep up with apply and their technology. This doesn't work for being handsfree on the road which is what Toyota advertises and is the law.
While driving in cruise control on a relatively traffic free road there was an accident far ahead the road and the vehicle automatically started to decelerate I took control, and after I took control all the lights on the control panel light up and the vehicle got jerky. I was able to stop and since there was an accident I turned off the vehicle and restarted it again. It acted normal after that particular incident. I mentioned it to the mechanic when time came for its factory maintenance, but the dealer was not able to explain the situation. I became aware at that time of the recall.
Power door lock makes a grinding wheel cog-like noise when attempting to lock after car start when shifting from park to drive. Sometimes the door requires a hand lock. Other times when departing vehicle, lock by electronic key, it fails to lock and door can be opened by door handle. Palmers Toyota, mobile al used computer but no read out. Unsatisfactory solution because problem comes and goes.
A couple times over the last several months, I've had problems with rpms surging (between 800 & 1200) shortly after starting the truck when the vehicle is cold; both while idling in park and shortly after placing the vehicle into D or R. this has resulted in unintended vehicle movement when it started surging after the truck was put into drive. This has happened when pulling out of my driveway on cold mornings or leaving an appointment or work after the truck had sat & cooled. The RPM surge wasn't an issue while it was simply idling. However, it has occasionally started surging after I placed the vehicle into drive. I placed the vehicle into drive, let off the gas but had not yet (or just starting to) pressed on the gas pedal. The surging was powerful enough to cause the vehicle to lurch forward significantly which is potentially very dangerous. In one instance I had driven maybe 100 yards and pulled up to a stop. As I was just letting off the brake to enter traffic and not yet pressed on the gas pedal it started surging and jerked forward. I had to slam on the brakes to prevent hitting other vehicles. This lasted for a minute or so and forced me to stay on the brake and block traffic until the surging stopped. This problem has occurred only a couple of times but is a huge safety risk to myself and others due to the unintended acceleration/vehicle movement when the RPM's surged while the powertrain was engaged. Toyota has acknowledged the surging and has stated there is no repair at this time. However, Toyota has also tried to tell me that it is operating as 'normal'. I have taken the truck to the shop several times and they have stated that they have seen the surging but because they have not experienced the surging when the powertrain is engaged (it happens only occasionally) the vehicle is operating normally. This is not normal or safe.
The gps in puerto rico doesn't work properly when you enter the coordinates tells you it's doesn't know where he is or he marks in the ocean the coordinates. I'll open a case in Toyota on November and they told me I have to wait until January for the update they called me a few days ago for the update I went to the dealer I make the update and the problems still. This is my case number in the in Toyota NA1910160007
I think more of these 2019 Tacoma need looked into to be added to the recent recall. Just about everything described in the current recall is going on with my Tacoma but my Tacoma is not on the recall list. When I called the dealer to mention it they said no if yours is not on the list its fine. It sure doesn't drive fine though.
Entune radio/headunit (hu) reboot itself while in a call. Reboot occurs while vehicle is in motion at any speed, during any driving condition. As the hu reboots, driver is unable to use rear-view camera and any other feature displayed in hu. Road attention is affected since driver is distracted by the screen going black and on again. Also if driver is in a call has to end call from the phone and call again using the phone. No message or error code was displayed on hu. Dealer asked to film the issue with the cellphone in order to service the hu. Dealer is encouraging the use of phone while driving to film an issue that they should check by looking for the hu error log. Moreover, I found in forums and youtube people reporting this rebooting issue in entune hu since 2016. The vehicle only have 2K miles and 3 month from bought and hu have shown reboot issue at least 20 times while connected to cellphone via bluethooth.
The head rests work their way up on their own, they don't lock down in place. I can push the button and completely remove the head rest. I am thinking that is a huge safety factor if I am in an accident and the head rest dislodges and becomes a projectile.
While stationary under the water flow of a carwash water began pouring from under the dash board on to the passenger side floorboard. Toyota states it is the way the vehicle is designed, cannot be repaired and is not a " warrantable defect".
My new 2019 Tacoma 4X4 trd pro has a terrible vibration problem when stopping from 35 to 40 miles per hour. It feels like it needs a brake job" the vibration starts as you are coming to a complete stop. I had to take it in twice for the same problem (Jan 26th, and Feb 13th, it's still at the dealer for repairs"
