At about 47,000 miles and just over 4 years of owning my 2018 Toyota Tacoma Cement Grey, I noticed clear coat peeling on the roof and hood of my truck exposing the base paint. The dealer I bought the truck from doesn't have a collision center so I took it to a local dealer. Their Collision Director looked at it, said it's definitely a manufacturing defect. He told me no matter how many times I cleaned or waxed my truck that this would happen anyway. He acknowledge Toyota has a known problem with the paint. He took pictures and told me that he'd reach out to Toyota to see if they would correct or cover some of the repair cost. He said he'd get back to me.
After several calls, I got the hint that nothing is going to be done. I reached out to the assistance service manager at the dealer I bought the truck from and was told that I had to work with Toyota Corporate. I called Toyota Corporate who told me that there is no open recall on the paint for my vehicle VIN so there is nothing they can do. If I had known that Toyota had a problem with their paint, I would have never bought it. The roof and hood of my truck look like they are over 10+ years old.
