I bought a Toyota Tacoma in April 2021 and in February 2022 I had misfire engine code in cylinder 5 and random misfire code (check engine light is on and stability track light on) So I go to my local garage and change all 6 spark plug and I had to change ignition coil in cylinder 5 because there was oil on it…
About 3 weeks after I notice a weird noise from my engine it’s not knocking mostly ticking but didn’t sound good at all, I live in northern Quebec, last winter we had 3 week with temperature of -40 degree Celsius. So I was no big deal, it’s my first winter with the truck it’s probably the cold and this noise is normal.
Since then, the noise just got worse and worse, so in May 2022 I go to my Toyota dealer where I bought the truck and ask for transmission oil change, transfer case oil change etc, I ask them to look at the engine noise… Answer was your engine is knocking, will need further investigation but maybe you can do another 60 000 miles without any problem… So, I was ok no big deal I will wait and see…
So now we are in September 2022 and it’s worst than ever, so I took the truck to the dealer I now have 143 000KM (88 500 miles) on the truck I ask my dealer to put a camera in my cylinder and have a look at the problem… I had a call they I need a new short block….
I received a quote from my dealer to fix the truck… the quote is 10 400$ Canadian or 7400$ USD
I had the job done... Now the truck is working fine but I will never suggest to anyone to buy a Toyota Tacoma, and in my town there is several other Tacoma with the same engine noise so beware.
