A week back, my 2017 V6 Tacoma failed to accelerate when I stepped on the gas to enter the intersection. Instead it decelerated leaving me in the way of oncoming traffic. Each time I stepped on the gas the engine would rev and then drop down leaving me moving at a crawl. Pulled into a shopping center to get out of traffic and shut off the engine. Called the dealership and was told this only occurs when the both the brake and gas pedal are pressed at the same time. Started vehicle and the problem had disappeared.
A week later, the same thing happened again, only this time, restarting the vehicle didn't solve the problem. Every time I slowed or stopped, the same thing happened: the vehicle would start moving but then decelerate 2 or 3 times before it opened up and allowed me to push up to speed. Dangerous as hell, especially on our country road. Felt super fortunate to reach home. Called the dealership again, and spoke to their "best" guy for this sort of problem, and he repeated that the only way it could happen was if both the brake and gas pedals were compressed simultaneously.
That's not what's happening. I read online that I'm not the only one experiencing this problem, but no one, the dealership included, seems to have a solution. A whole lot of "might be's" out there, but no specific fix. Taking it to the local dealer on Monday, if I can get it there, but nothing they've said gives me any confidence they can 100% fix what is a potentially deadly problem.
