Due to the failure of the secondary air pump system vehicle will experience a sudden loss of power and could cause a loss of control. Toyota is aware of the problem but will not issue a recall.

On three different occasions I was stationary with the gear shift in drive and my foot firmly on the break, when the RPM's suddenly revel up to over 5000 RPM and the truck trying to lurch forward. I had to Ram the gear shift into neutral to get the RPM's to drop down. The last time it happened at the bank parking lot. I came to a complete stop to let a woman cross in front of me to her car. All of the sudden the engine revs way up with me trying to hold the truck back as it was lurching forward. She thought I was trying to run over her. I don't know who was more scared, her or me. I jammed it into neutral and after a few more seconds the revs dropped down to idle again. I'm taking it to modesto Toyota tomorrow to get it looked at on August the 6th. The truck only has 63000 miles on it. The other two times it happened were in my driveway and at my storage unit. Both times I was stationary as well, truck in drive, foot on break. Very dangerous!

I purchased the vehicle new & had the dealer install the optional Toyota trd supercharger at approximately 5K miles. At approximately 10K+ miles, I started to notice while at cruising speed (30-50mph) if I needed rapid acceleration to pass or enter the highway, the tachometer would show the engine revving but the vehicle will not accelerate. The vehicle is used for commuting 100 mi daily (highway)the Toyota dealer confirmed the problem / removed the transmission to access the clutch & found no abnormal wear or defect. Toyota now states because I modified the vehicle with the Toyota optional trd dealer installed supercharger, there is no warranty & I have to pay for the repair. See the following link: www.trdusa.com/parts-detail.html?P=ptr29-35120&years=2015&models=Tacoma&categories=all&subcategories=all : warranty is the same as other trd powertrain components: 12 months or 12,000 miles or the balance of the 5 year/60,000 new car powertrain warranty, whichever is greater, when installed by an authorized Toyota dealer. Superchargers installed by anyone other than an authorized Toyota dealer are warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles. : the dealer feels the oem clutch/pressure plate is not sufficient to support the extra power & replacing with new oem parts will not resolve the issue but upgrading to heavy duty aftermarket parts is recommended. The vehicle was drivable but potentially dangerous when rapid acceleration is needed. The "right" thing for Toyota to do would cover 100% of the labor & 50% of the aftermarket part upgrade since Toyota doesn't offer a trd upgrade. It seems Toyota denies all claims related to repairs after a supercharger install.

Truck is only a year old and multiple times now the transmission has failed to engage. Each time it's in drive, and on a slope or hill and when brake pedal is released with the truck in drive it starts clicking and grinding and rolls backwards, unable to engage and continue on. Truck requires that you put it into park and back into drive before you can proceed. Last time this occurred I nearly hit a child in the street as it rolled backwards and would not engage even though it was still in drive. It's been into the shop multiple times now and I am told there is nothing they could do and I have emailed Toyota. Nobody wants to help and this issue continues. This is a serious safety issue when transmission will not engage and starts rolling backward before you even realize what is happening or have a chance to react. Even if there is no hill-holding option with this transmission, the truck should not click and grind in gear once you put foot on the gas pedal to attempt to continue the drive forward. This is serious and needs investigation!!!!!!!! this is the 2nd complaint with you and there have been multiple attempts to work with Toyota to no avail. Different answer each time I take it in.
