When I first got the truck and opened the tailgate, I knew I didn't like the way the tailgate latch had to be opened. It felt like I had to pull harder than needed to open it, and the latch feels very cheap. I work in cold weather conditions (0 to 35 degrees F) and on one night when it snowed, I wanted to get something out of the tailgate. When I pulled on the latch, I had to pull it all the way up. It made the noise it usually makes when it opens, except it didn't open and the latch was loose and was locked out of my trunk.
When I took it into the shop, they said the cable had been broken and the tailgate latch/lock would have to be replaced (~$180). Definitely annoying since this is a Toyota product, so I wouldn't expect such a cheap product to be used for the tailgate. Even moreso considering CarComplaints ranks this 2015 Toyota Tacoma on its Best Of list.
