At 11,000 miles I experienced a problem with my Tacoma in that when attempting to merge with traffic by accelerating, the Tachometer drops and you have no acceleration. The only way to get the truck to accelerate is to press the accelerator to the floor. When it finally catches you have to slam on the brake to keep from runnimg into the car in front of you. This has been happening randomly and seems to be getting more frequent. My concern is that I am going to get broadsided on of these days and killed or injured due to the lack of acceleration. I have reported this to Toyota and NHTSA several times. Toyota says "take it to a local dealer, which I have done and they kept it for a week , but could not duplicate the problem so they did nothing. The problem occurred on the way home from the dealer and I reported it again to Toyota Headquarters who told me to "continue to work with the local dealer" whatever that means. I assume it means tough sh*t for me since they cannot duplicate the problem. I guess when I get broadsided and injured Toyota may then realize that I was not joking.
I purchased the truck new and anticipated good service from it like I have had in the past from other Toyota trucks and cars, but I guess i was mistaken.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with a Toyota truck or car. I am at a loss as to what to do, I guess my only recourse is to pursue some satisfaction under the Lemon Law. I am very upset with my dealings with Toyota Headquarters regarding this problem.
