battery overheat & acid bubble over
My wife took my 2012 Toyota Tacoma (10 Months old, 16k miles) to the store and it was fine. Came back out 20 min later and when she unlocked it with the remote it made a funny sound 1/2 chirp. When she put the key in the ignition, all the dash lights were flashing, the Speedo and RPM Gauges were pulsing from 0 to about midway pointing left and the radio clock was reset. She attempted to start the vehicle and completely dead. No click, no turnover, nothing. I got a ride over there with Jumper Cables.
I noticed that there was acid covering the top of the battery. I attempted to jump it and would only make a 1/2 attempt to turn over and start clicking. Let it stay connected and charge for about 10 min and attempted to start it again, again 1/2 turn over and click click click.
Took the battery out and noticed that the case was distorted. Took it 1 block to AutoZone and they put it on the charger and it was at 0%. (approx 10min after off the jumper cables).
$150 for new battery. Installed and vehicle started just fine.
