I started having problems with the clutch at 5,000 miles. I reported it to a Toyota dealer and of course they couldn't find anything wrong. I've taken it to several dealers and they "can't duplicate the problem". Of course they can't - I live in TX - not Northern New Mexico! I took the truck to NM to try to pull a 4 wheeler up a slight incline and the CLUTCH BURNED UP!!!! Finally got a service person to actually DRIVE the vehicle and he could tell there was a clutch problem - and toyota has several clutch issue bulletins out at the dealerships. (Wonder why none of the other dealerships had seen them? I had that same thought.) They warranty replaced the clutch so we went back to NM to see if the new clutch was going to fix the problem. This time there was 4-5" of snow. The brand new clutch BURNED UP AGAIN! Apparently this clutch was worse than the original! what a POS!! Now I have a Tacoma with a burned up clutch and Toyota is trying to say I don't know how to drive a standard vehicle!!?? I have a 6 speed corvette that I can drive just fine! I also have a Trans Am with a standard trans that I can drive just fine!! Toyota wants ME to pay to replace the clutch. They're not even going to warranty replace it!! DO NOT BUY TOYOTA TRUCKS WITH A STANDARD TRANSMISSION!! And don't let 4x4 fool you - they don't make their vehicles for off-road use apparently. This truck is rated at towing capacity of 3600 lbs and it won't tow 1000 up an incline in wet, dry or snow conditions! Heed my warning - don't buy Toyota 4x4 with a clutch! YOU WILL BE SORRY.
