Took my truck to the dealer complaining that the truck vibrates between 25 & 35 mph when going up a hill under gentle acceleration. The dealer told me I needed to replace 3 of the 4 wheel bearings. $2500 later the vibration was still there which was obvious on the drive home from the dealer. Went back to the dealer and they said the transmission needs to be replaced which will cost $5500. Not wanting to throw parts at it I had the dealer replace the transmission filter and do a complete transmission fluid flush for $605. Dealer called me and told me it didn’t fix the problem. I went and picked up the truck and will continue to look for other solutions only not through the dealership. I’m not happy I spent $3100 and the problem was not fixed.

Tacoma Pre-runner 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 102,528 miles

When I purchased the vehicle second hand in 2013, the truck would lurch ahead as the RPM dropped at a stop light. I took the truck to Toyota and they told me that is just how these transmissions are and that I would get used to it. I sought a second opinion and they told me the same thing.

Recently I experienced that When accelerating to approximately 1500 RPM to 2000 RPM the truck starts to shudder. This issue stops when I release the accelerator. This was intermittent in the begining. I brought this into Toyota and they said they could not duplicate the problem. This issue has continued and has become very frequent. I will be taking it to them again to see if they can figure it out.

Tacoma SR5 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 79,000 miles

The dealer diagnosed the problem and said I need a new transmission for $4200.00!!! I only have 79000 miles on this vehicle and I have it serviced regularly. I pull no trailers or carry heavy loads whatsoever. Why is the tranny going out so soon? I contacted Toyota customer service (Regional office) to see if they could help pay at least part of this fix. After taking down some information for their "investigation", they said sorry but they can't help.

I am extremely disappointed that I pay so much for a Toyota Tacoma, only to have the tranny go out after 79,000 miles and five years. The service writer at the dealer was very nice and understanding and he believed that Toyota would help by paying some of the cost. He was surprised that they would not help at all. I am going to have the dealer put it back together as I can't afford this fix now. I will just drive it till the tranny stops completely and just figure it out then. Extremely disappointed in Toyota and I needed to express my dissatisfaction.
