I brought car in for routine oil change. Mechanic called me in to show me the extreme rust under the frame. It is flaking off in chunks and almost rusted through in some parts. Mechanic informed me that this was not normal and I should contact Toyota for possible recall information. I contacted Toyota, but have not heard back for over one month.

Took truck into dealer for service and was informed that the frame had rusted to the point that there was now a hole in it. Contacted Toyota via phone and email and was told on both occasions that there was not a "program" in place to assist owners with this problem. Previous replacement program covered Tacoma made from 1998-2004 that exhibited the same issues, premature rusting/corrosion of the trucks' fames. My limited research has shown numerous cases where the frames of the truck corrodes to the point that it is unsafe to drive. Please see forum at this link for other examples www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/Toyota/Tacoma/frame. obviously this is a defect with the most important part of the truck and one that Toyota has been made aware of numerous times, but refuses to address. It is my believe that they should assist their customers by replacing the frames that have deteriorated prematurely. After talking with Toyota and multiple dealers, I have no where else to turn for assistance. Any help you can be would be greatly appreciated.

In October of 2012 I purchased a 2006 Toyota Tacoma from interstate Toyota in airmont, NY. The vehicle had 79,000 miles on it, had and had passed the Toyota 160 point / certified pre-owned inspection. Prior to the purchase I asked about missing rear wheel molding, non functioning outside temperature gauge and what looked like rust on the frame. The vehicle was brought into their shop and put on a lift. The molding was repaired, the guage ordered and shipped to my home, and I was assured by my salesman, justin goetz, that the rust was merely surface rust, and that the vehicle wouldn't have passed the 160 point inspection had it been more then just simple surface rust. I was happy with my truck and purchased it with their platinum warranty coverage using Toyota financial. Several weeks ago the A/C stopped working. I got an appointment at my local dealership, shore Toyota, in pleasantville NJ to have it fixed. I asked that the A/C be checked, and that the frame be checked as a mechanic that performed my last oil change had noted concern about frame rust to me. Shore Toyota replaced the A/C clutch (covered under warranty), and proceeded to tell me that "the vehicle should not be driven and taken off the road immediately as the vehicle is not safe to drive!!" I was informed that the frame was severely rusted out with perferations holes on the left & right side rails. I was told that there was no way this vehicle could have passed a 160 point inspection because it would take much longer then 8 to 9 months for so much rot to occur. I was floored!! I just wanted my A/C fixed. I never could have imagined that my $20,000+ truck was a junker.....that I'd been had. Toyota Corp said there were no recalls and nothing they could do about it at this time. I wish I could include the pics I have of the frame.

During some under body inspections prior to performing some brake repair, I noticed a crack in the rear drivers side frame in front of the shock mount. I contacted the local dealership and they confirmed a perforation and crack across bottom portion of C-channel in frame. The denied any responsibility and claimed the crack was due to severe offroading, which is absolutely incorrect. I asked them to prove that theory and they could not. They would only provide a reference number and that I could contact their legal department. I am now stuck with a 6-ish year old vehicle that cannot be driven.

Been to dealer once 2 years ago about rusting frame and they told me it would not be addressed because there were no perforations. I'm sorry but once there are perforations the vehicle has lost structural integrity making it unsafe and undriveable..

We own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma that was taken to a garage for a state inspection and was pointed out to us that the vehicle has extensive frame rust with area of significant rust flaking off. It was also noted that there was a small rust through in one area. We took this vehicle to the dealer where we purchased it.they took pictures of the vehicle to forward to Toyota for them to evaluate the situation. It was noted that the technician exclaimed that the vehicle had this much rust for such a low mileage vehicle (29,407 miles). Toyota replied to the inquiry and stated that it was not a safety issue and they would not act on it. Looking at the underside of the vehicle and comparing with other earlier Tacoma that had been recalled for frame rust, I fail to see where this vehicle should not be considered having a major rust problem. I'm concerned that there will be further degradation and possible lead to the vehicle being unsafe. Pictures and copy of work order available upon request.

Spare tire cable snapped on the morning of 7/12/12.snapping of the cable resulted in the rear of the vehicle becoming airborne and shifting to the side while in mid air. Luckily time was on my side. I was working nights and had this incident unfolded while working my normal day shift, I am positive there would have been contact between my vehicle with another vehicle, or another vehicle with tire and rim on route 287 North in New Jersey as the roads are packed like sardines in a can yet moving at a brisk pace. I did not know what is was at first but immediately pulled off into the shoulder. Found the wheel and noticed that the unused spare tire is now in need of replacement at a cost of $180.

Barkley Toyota, asheville, nc, noted, on 1 Nov 2010, "frame on truck rusted on "quality vehicle inspection" report. Said it wasn't important. On 7 Sept 2011 jacobson Toyota, durham, nc, noted "heavy rust throughout underbody" on its "25-point inspection." On 14 Sept 2011, barkley Toyota, the usual service provider, inspected the truck, found heavy rust throughout the underbody, but said it was up to Toyota to fix any problem. Barkley did not evaluate safety issues. Barkley said photos and a description would be sent to Toyota and I might, or might not, hear directly from them. Identical problems were found on 1995-2005 Toyota Tacoma, and a recall was issued. But Toyota has not acknowledged or recalled 2006 or later Tacoma's which have what appears to be the same problem.

Just bought a 2006 Toyota Tacoma from a Toyota dealer as a used certified vehicle. Recently noticed rust stains on my driveway where I park the vehicle. I decided to look under the truck. I noticed that the frame is covered with rust. Mostly on welding points and flat surfaces. I've been researching online and have come to find out that this was once an issue with this truck in the older models and was stated to have been resolved. But the complaints I've read so far have been of the same vehicle as mine built between 2005 - 2007. Called Toyota directly and was told that this is not considered a recall or safety issue. Was told to contact my dealer. I know rust is corrosive and is going to spread over time progressively getting worse. I don't want to be driving the vehicle one day with my children and have the vehicle not operate properly and cause a automobile accident. Thanks

2006 Toyota Tacoma tailgate is dangerously weak, and is unable to support what most consider normal weight for a truck tailgate. Although substandard design may be considered "buyer beware", truck buyers expect a tailgate to support the weight of normal truck use activities. Toyota provides no warning or caution anywhere that the tailgate is of insufficient strength to perform normal 1/2-ton truck duties, and typically (per internet forum threads) tells their customers that it is their problem and that they should not expect to be able to safely use the tailgate for anything more than hiding the inside of the bed. Since Toyota has produced a substandard designed part, they should have provided a visual warning on the part to alert customers to the danger their product imposes if used in a traditional manner. Since they did not do so, they should be held liable to provide a redesigned part to their customers or full restitution for the purchase price of the vehicles. A google or similar internet search on "Tacoma tailgate forum" will substantiate my statements beyond my personal experience with the tailgate bending. Toyota claims that the tailgate is just a door to the bed but on its own website sella a "bed extender" that utilizes the tailgate for more bed space.

Front and rear mud flaps tear loose and beat side of vehicle as they do not completely separate when this happens. On the front at highway speed driver will hear very loud noise from banging on side of vehicle. When this occurs on the rear passenger side the flap will contact the exhaust pipe and burn the plastic.if someone is traveling at highway speed this could lead to a fire in the rear wheel well. My front passenger side broke around 20 June 2008 two weeks later 3 July 2008 drivers side broke, yesterday 7 Aug 2008 I noticed the rear passenger was broken and had contacted the exhaust pipe causing it to melt.
