Tacoma Pre Runner 4.0L

Thank you Guys,

I am just upset as hell to see my beautiful dark blue Tacoma look like a garbage can on wheels. The clear coat as been peeling off the truck every where, the roof, hood wheel wells, etc.

My communication with Toyota Corporate did not yield anything. They absolutely refuse to even discuss the issue and pretty much blame it all on environmental conditions. Now, I can’t even wash the truck much less try to wax it, it just keep peeling more and more.

I have given up on any resolution, there is only so much time and effort to put into this, without any possible outcome. I cannot possibly consider selling it in this condition, because the loss of value.

Any suggestions will be appreciated,

Thank you

excessive paint chipping excessive paint chipping excessive paint chipping

In January of 2018 i noticed a few little small nicks in the hood of my truck (called tears in the body paint industry). By May 5th the truck looked like it was sand blasted. I reported the issue to Toyota with pictures of the hood, roof, and the area's directly adjacent to the hood to show the failing paint.

I got a call back the very next day and the lady was very nice and caring. Then she put me on hold to see if Toyota had any programs or recall on the paint for this year. At that point she was no longer nice and her tone changed as she told me "Toyota Has No Programs or Recalls for this truck and will be doing NOTHING to help you". Then she said thank you for calling and would you be willing to stay on the line for a survey. I said Hell Yes and gave them the lowest score possible in all categories.

The next week i went to the Insurance Company to clam Comprehensive damage as I did have rocks hit the car in February from a dump truck. After having the car inspected by an inspector and arguing with him about the failing paint (he told me it was repainted at some point. I told him no it hadn't as I am the original owner) and which paint chips were from rocks. They ended up giving me a check for $360, originally $460 less my $100 deductible, and told me it will probably cost around $800 to get the hood painted correctly.

This is crap work on the first year of the second generation Tacoma's and it is now just coming to light and Toyota is choosing to ignore it. they knew this was going to happen because someone cut a corner to save a few dollars in production. 3 of my coworkers have Toyota Tacoma's from 2000 and earlier and non of their paint is flaking or rusting. It may be faded a little but, there is no flaking or chipping.

Over all I am just disappointed in a company that is known for producing such a great product. My family has owned 16 Toyota's and this is by far the worst case of Toyota turning their back on their customer I have seen.

The paint started excessively chipping in the first year of service. I brought his issue to the attention of the dealer and Toyota before the warranty expired. The regional warranty service advisor from Toyota inspected the truck and basically said, "This is a new environmental paint and it will chip easily" No new paint for your Tacoma was the answer I got both from the dealer or Toyota! At the most recent recalls for my model year, I informed the dealer about the now flaking clear coat and my original complaint about the lousy paint job. Response...NO NEW PAINT FOR YOU SUCKER!

I called Toyota Corporate and opened a new case file which included, paint defects, excessive frame rust, and no fix for rear leaf springs. Stay tuned...

Paint of roof began peeling all of a sudden. Peeled right down to the bare metal. Had to repaint it at my own cost. I took it to the Toyota dealer and they would not help. The truck is ten years of but this should not have happened. Hope the rest of the truck does not start to peel.

Tacoma DoubleCab 4WD T

  • 10,400 miles

I've had this vehicle for just about 1 year. I've not noticed any problems until lately. I just waxed yesterday and noticed about 100 paint chips all over the vehicle. Mainly on the front bumper, fenders, rockers, bed, and doors. Funny this is the factory skid plate is scratchless and no chips, but the paint is flaking fast. There are no scratches on my truck, so it's not from careless driving. I only drive on highways and country highways. I've had (2) Ford Rangers and never had a paint problem, one of them had 100K miles on it and was an Alaskan truck (I lived there for 4 years) and drove on all kinds of gravel roads. It drive from Alaska to Ohio and never once got a paint chip. First time buying a Toyota. I bought it based on Toyota's rep, I don't think I'll buy another one. It's a shame, I love this truck, I get lots of compliments, and it drive, performs great. Color of mine is Speedway Blue.
