Hi, i had the recall preventive performed by toyota for rusting and corrosion of the frame. Now, the vehicle is rusting throughout the frame and is very very unsafe to drive. TOYOTA is claiming that it was a program and not a recall and had no documentation to prove. Toyota performed the recall and now the frame is still at risk to crack and very unsafe.
The contact owns a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. The vehicle was taken to be state inspected, but it did not pass due to severe rust under the bed of the vehicle. The contact was informed that the leaf springs were rusted and needed a new frame. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
The contact owns a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. While driving 20 mph over a bump in the road, the contact heard a loud abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the rear shock absorber fractured and that there was a hole in the frame. Del Toyota (2945 Lincoln hwy E, thorndale, pa 19372, (610) 383-6200) was contacted and stated that the vehicle was sold as is without further assistance. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000.
Bought 99 Toyota Tacoma truck.verified with dealer who did the frame exam in 2014 for rust. At 207000 miles. It passed imspectiom in 2014"?? now 4 yrs later and 18000 additional miles, it's rusted in half"
99 Toyota frame is rusted through when carfax report specifically listed a Toyota dealer checked same vehicle for frame rust in 2014 with 207000 miles on it. It passed if that's what U want to call it. Now in 2018 with an additional 15,000 miles on it, it has rusted through.
When I changed the oil in March, I noticed a huge hole on the inside of the left frame member, next to the gas tank. I then checked the right side, and found a long line of rusted through holes along the bottom of that frame member. I feel this is a major safety defect by the oem's selection of steel grades.
The frame has been diagnosed by 2 separate repair shops as being not drivable due to holes. This make and model was recalled for this reason and was brought into a Toyota service center in 2009. The frame was inspected "ok" and no work was done. The frame is now rotted and I am now being told it is ineligible for repair because it is now outside of the 15-year warranty window. This vehicle was, in fact, brought to Toyota within the window and nothing was done about it.
Toyota sent a recall card in 2011 to rust proof the frame. They covered up the rust and said the vehicle was good to go. The frame has rusted to the point the vehicle is not safe to drive. I have a friend that had the same problem and they purchased his vehicle and I know several people have had their frame's replaced at no charge by Toyota. They avoided the issue and now I have a unsafe vehicle.
Frame rusted so bad there are holes, and a bracket has broken lose causing the wheel to move. Was told too dangerous to drive by mechanic a couple of days ago.
Holes rusted through on frame. Believe it's called lift spring bracket broke because of rust. Mechanic informed me a couple of days ago when I wanted to know if rusted out hole in frame could be repaired

The frame of the truck has completely rusted through just before the back drivers side wheel. It has split completely through the metal and runs all the way down toward the front. All the way down. It scares me to drive it bnut it is the only tranportation I have and no choice. This happened in the past year.
The contact owns a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle's frame had rusted out. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Toyota Tacoma of this year are a safety hazard due to frames that rust through and become weak to the point of failure. Toyota has not done enough with its voluntary service repair leaving thousands of these trucks on the road and putting all drivers at risk of death or serious injury from frame breakage. Toyota should recall any and all remaining trucks and provide frame repair suitable for safe on-road operation. My vehicle frame is nearly entirely rusted through. It was inspected during Toyota service campaign and found not to be bad enough for repair, now it is too late and no longer qualifies for repair. The picture provided shows my driver side frame rail bottom. The top of this frame rail is so soft I can push through it with my fingers. The passenger side frame rail has marginally less rust through but is still in an unsafe condition. These vehicles are dangerous and someone will be injured, if someone already hasnt, as a result of these poor quality frames.
Toyota rust recall. Truck purchased in 2003 and undercoated. [xxx] received recall, took it in, nothing was done. [xxx], son bought truck in 2008 went to L& S Toyota regarding rust, nothing was done. Frame has rusted so bad that it punctured hole in fuel tank; otherwise, truck in excellent condition. Too dangerous to drive. In 2008 Toyota frame rust was so bad on 1995-2004 Tacoma (about 800,000 trucks) was so bad the company had to buy many of them back, conduct extensive frame repairs and/or extend frame corrosion warranties by 15 years. Company never issued a recall for that problem. We would appreciate getting our frame and fuel tank fixed. It has sentimental value to my husband since it was his dad's truck and he is deceased, and besides, it is a great truck and looks great! information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The frame on my 1999 Toyota Tacoma is rusted to the point that it is on long safe to drive the truck it's a know problem with Toyota and they will not do anything to fix there own problem cause it will dip into the billions of bonus money these crooks make each year. Drive it till it snaps in two they will tell you
