I've had convertibles my entire life and never had a problem, certainly no replacement in more than 25 years. This is the first.

2008 Toyota Solara - my husband's dream retirement car. Purchased as "certified used" from Coggin Toyota in Jax, Florida. Paid for prepaid maintenance and pricey platinum extended warranty - big buck$$. Kept in great shape, had service on time, hand washed only.

Per local dealer and reputable auto interior specialist, the convertible top is/was defective from day one. After top shredded on one side and glue/fabric unraveled suddenly this week, the back glass is sagging and the headliner as fallen. The interior is in danger of water damage if not replaced ASAP! Auto interior specialist says very premature dry rot, adhesive failure and failure of the factory head seal of the rear window at time of manufacture.

Repair is not possible, the problem is so bad. I have written documentation. Toyota Corporate says they won't cover anything, wouldn't investigate, wouldn't inspect it or get a regional manager involved. Pawned me off on the local dealership. Extended warranty won't cover either. It's going to be $2,242 to replace the top and the interior headliner that will have to be replaced as well. I am following up with the Dealership as of October, 2011.

Toyota reputation is over-rated and not deserved. We bought foreign for the first time ever, expecting quality to live up to the hype. I'm very disillusioned and disappointed in Toyota quality and customer service.
