We were on vacation on Labor Day and we were about 100 miles from our destination when our transmission starting shifting like crazy making the van jerk around. We called the salesman from the dealership on his personal phone and asked him if he had any ideas and he eventually came up with the idea of putting the shifter into the manual mode and use it that way. Once we did that and left it in the 5th gear position (which it will still downshift like normal, that's just the highest gear it will go into) it was working fine. We took it to the local Toyota dealership at our destination and they looked it over and said there was nothing that they could do about it. I told them that I had 500 miles to drive home and I preferred a loaner vehicle to get me there, but they said no and told me that we shouldn't have a problem making it home. I was irritated at that because I have two young children that I didn't want to have to worry about if something else did happen. Anyways, we got on the road to head home and we were about 250 miles from home when the traction control off light came on on the dash and the cruise control stopped working. It was still shifting ok while in the 5th gear position, but the cruise control wasn't working, so that was really irritating. Although, we were getting about 6-7 MPG more than before.... odd? Once we made it home, the next day we took it to the dealership and they kept it for about a week while we used a rental. Other problems occurred before and after, also, but not with the transmission. I'll report those on other forms.
