The contact's father owned a 2010 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while his father was driving to the hospital at 30-40 MPH for a medical emergency, he lost consciousness. The vehicle crashed into a steel fence. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact's father was transported to the hospital by emergency units where it was diagnosed that he had sustained a broken neck, which made it impossible for the medical personnel to treat him. The contact's father deceased while in the hospital. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard where it was totaled. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Sienna. When the vehicle was started, the air bag warning indicator illuminated and remained illuminated. The contact also stated that the horn and air bag, along with other steering wheel functions, were inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired; however, the contact stated that the spiral cable assembly in the steering wheel was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was informed by the manufacturer that there were no recalls pertaining to the failure; therefore, they would not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Sienna. While operating the vehicle, the passenger side air bags were deactivated even though a 130 lb passenger was seated in the front passenger seat. After switching passengers, the front passenger side air bag operated normally for approximately 20 minutes before the malfunction recurred, although the passenger seat weighed approximately 213 lbs. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000.
The dashboard is melting and I am not sure if this compromise the airbag deployment or will cause the air bag to deploy due to the rapid deterioration of it.
