Just filling up tire and valve stem broke without any pressure on it. What are they made of, tin foil? WARNING, be careful, very expensive. Dealer should fix such a cheap junky part.

Sienna LE 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission

The left rear tire was flat when my husband got out of work. He took it to the local mechanic rather than drive the 30 miles to the dealership. The mechanic couldn't figure it out and couldn't get the spare out. This cost $200.

The dealer, after a 3 HOUR wait, couldn't find anything wrong, replaced the tire stem at a cost of $250 and sent us on our way. No explanation, no word of warning, nothing. And then it happened again.

So on Tuesday, January 10, the tire pressure light went on AGAIN. My husband filled up the tires and the light stayed on. So he went to the dealership.

This time it cost $500 DOLLARS to fix the tire stem. Apparently they are as fragile as tissue paper and need special handling when you fill up the tires. Unfortunately, there is NO mention of this in the owner's manual, no one said a word when we bought the car, and when we paid $250 to have this done the first time in October, no one said a thing.

My husband had to insist on talking to someone about this problem. They told us the stems are very fragile and need special handling. And offered us a $10/tire insurance policy so if this happens again we won't be out hundreds of dollars AGAIN. I'm not holding my breath.

Toyota has a responsibility to tell owners about these types of problems. They will not respond to my emails, the dealership will not respond to my emails, and I am filing a complaint with the BBB, although I doubt that will accomplish anything. My next step is the Attorney General of our state. Anyone else have this kind of problem with the Toyota Sienna?

We're done buying Toyotas after this experience.
