Brought in my van to dealer, have been tolerating the hesitation in shifting for as long as I have had the van. Now a rubbing sound from the front of the vehicle. Dealer states new transmission is required, further states he does not see this issue often, and that unfortunately the vehicle is just out of warranty.
Called Toyota Motor Corp, who will not give extension of warranty. Looking now online for other similar complaints, trying to investigate. I feel I should not be having this issue with Toyota, and that I should not be paying for transmission replacement.
Update from Oct 14, 2013: I wrote a letter to the owner of the dealership, and asked the service manager to arrange a meeting for me with the regional service manager. this was my third Toyota, my second Sienna. My first Sienna , a 1999, was still on the road with an intact transmission.
The dealership agreed to pay for the replacement transmission, and I paid $500 for labor.
Now, at 90,000, (which is 26,000 if you count the new transmission), I am experiencing similar symptoms. I took it to the dealership, and was told that everything was as it should be.
