Same problem on ours too. The rubber comes off on your hand every time you open it in the heat

this is so annoying. Every time I go to open my hatch (which is often) I am left with a black sticky mess on my hands. I have googled the problem and there are LOTS of complaints. Enough that would suggest this is Toyota's problem. Also, the cost I have seen to fix this is $75!!! Because supposedly you can't just replace the black crap. you have to replace the handle which is not problematic.

Pretty disappointing really. This was a pretty reliable product. But to have several things going wrong... The handle itself was a mess, it would come off in your hand as if it was tar.
