We have now completed our fourth repair of this vehicle due to emissions codes tripping up the Check Engine light. Three times it has been due to failure of the catalytic converter, which our excellent mechanic attributes to excessive oil consumption by the engine. We have had three catalytic converters reinstalled (the vehicle has at least two, possibly three). Today, he elected to clean the intake manifold and clear the code in hopes that Toyota might eventually issue a recall to correct what he believes to be a piston or ring problem with this engine.
