I bought Toyota because of their reputation for being a reliable vehicle, and for the most part they are. Regarding the spare tire carrier recall, their response has been unacceptable. I received notice in the mail, took my van for the inspection in June 2010, and they noted on the invoice that the carrier need to be Replaced. After many inquiries, they have made another appt at the end of December, to conduct a SECOND inspection to determine if parts need to be ordered or if they have the parts for the repair.
My van was already in their service dept in Oct for oil & filter, and they couldn't or didn't check it then. Fixing this problem must be really testing Toyota's engineering dept.
Update from Jan 9, 2011: I sent an e-mail of complaint to the dealership about this second inspection appt, and the slow progress. Within an hour of my e-mail, I had a call from the owner of the dealership asking me to bring my van in that day. By 5pm that day, my van was repaired. Hats off to Kingston Toyota for excellent customer service.
