Upon parking the vehicle on a medium downward grade on Lippard Street, San Francisco, while curbing the wheels, (with car in drive, right foot fully on the brake pedal, no contact with throttle pedal), car suddenly went to full throttle. By exerting maximum pressure on the brake pedal, I managed to slow the advance of the vehicle as it jumped the curb, heading for the wall of Glen Park School. By continuing pressure on the brakes and disengaging the transmission, I was able to stop the car...about two feet short of impact with the wall. By good fortune and the grace of God, no one was injured, and there was no property damage. There was an event going on at the school at the time, and parents and children had been walking up and down the sidewalk around the time of the incident. Someone could have been seriously injured or killed.
Upon stopping, I immediately checked my foot positions, the mats, and everything in the throttle pedal area. Absolutely no interference from a mat. Nothing touching or interfering with the throttle pedal. We had the vehicle towed to our home. I have contacted Toyota, and they are helping arrange an inspection. The vehicle will be towed to the dealership, as I consider it far to dangerous to attempt to drive it.
