The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that the tow hitch detached from the vehicle while going through the car wash. The contact stated that the vehicle was not taken to a dealer nor an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact was concerned that the tow hitch could have detached while driving on the road and caused an accident. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 41,790.
The bumper cover that covers the hitch and is removable has fallen off of my car three times on the highway. I have only had the car for about four months and it is brand new. The first incident was when i had about 1500 miles on the vehicle, the second at 3200 miles, and now at 4800 miles. This is an obvious design flaw and a hazard to other drivers as it could hit them and cause an accident. I have had to order this part twice.
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the cover on the rear bumper that covers the trailer hitch flew off the vehicle. Due to the failure, other motorist were forced to swerve around the cover to avoid contact with the road obstruction. The contact called a dealer(Toyota of Southern Maryland) where they order the part to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.
