I purchased this car new and did not use the gps for 5 years. The first time I used it, the navigation system would shut down and black out for several minutes. When It came back on, the radio would keep playing but the destination data was gone. I had to re-enter it many times during a 2000 mile trip. I looked it up on the Internet and saw others had the same problem.
I went to a dealer, explained the problem, and was told to buy a new micro SD card for $181.84. This did solve the problem but I felt I shouldn’t have to pay for it since it was a factory defect. Had I known of the problem, I would’ve brought it in while under warranty. When I got home, I called Toyota and explained what happened, hoping for reimbursement. I explained that I was told by the Toyota serviceman who sold me the part to put in the chip myself. It was very easy to do. By doing this myself it showed no record of a work order to fix it, and the Toyota people told me I was given an update on the chip and they don’t cover updates.
I explained to her I never used the system and would’ve brought it in under warranty and offered to send the old chip to them so they could check it. She would not take the old chip and told me she would review the case. Her final answer was because it was an update they don’t cover it. NOT HAPPY!
