severe frame rust severe frame rust

Frame has rust corrosion causing 18 inch perforated hole in front frame of car. This is same problem that has warranted a recall of the toyota Tundra which uses the same frame. The car has been deemed unsafe to drive due to the extensive rust corrosion on the frame. This must be due to poor quality material and coating of the original frame. through research appears to be a VERY common problem in Sequoia that are in areas dealing with road salt. The recall should be extended to include this model along with the Tundra. The car is parked outside driveway and mostly local driving.

severe frame rust severe frame rust

Purchased a 2006 Toyota Sequoia 11 months ago from a dealer in Atlanta GA. The body and interior of the vehicle was in excellent condition. We live in South Carolina with very mild weather. Last week, 10/30/15 the brake caliper on the right rear started dragging while my wife was driving the Sequoia. We had our mechanic pick the vehicle up and take it to his shop. He called me Saturday, 10/31/15 to come look at the vehicles undercarriage. He raised it up on the lift so we could get under it. He then pointed out the frame was rusted through in several areas large enough to put your hand in, entire brake system was rusted through, the brake line on the rear had ruptured because of the rust and the rear-end housing was rusted almost completely through. The vehicle is unsafe to drive. I called Toyota North America 1-800-331-4331 this morning 11/2/2015 and was told there was no recalls on the 2006 Toyota Sequoia for excessive frame rust and I would be responsible for any repairs to the vehicle. A 9 year old vehicle should not have this amount of corrosion to the frame. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Update from Nov 2, 2015: Update- filed a complaint with the NHTSA.
