The brake light constantly goes on and off. Trac off, vsc trac and check engine lights all come on. A loud rattling noise coming from the front end of vehicle and vibration. Engine will not accelerate randomly while driving and the trac control light goes on at the same time. This is a huge safety issue especially when you are turning in an intersection. I almost got hit. This needs to be corrected before someone gets hurt or killed. The dealer wants me to pay over $2000 to repair. I am a single mother of 2 that just lost her job. This is the same issue that came about in the 2003 Toyota Sequoia recall. We need this fixed!!
Vsc (vehicle skid control), trac (traction control), brake lights came on. This is a 2005 model year Toyota Sequoia with approximately 41,000 miles on the odometer. Vehicle has never been in an accident and has been garaged since new. Dealer says computer needs replaced, approximately $1,000 to replace. Vsc/trac/brake light problems are well documented in 1st generation Sequoias (2001-2007 model years). Read about problems on www.tundrasolutions.com.
2005 Toyota Sequoia, engine stops intermittently, "electronic stability control" light come on, engine dies, not on a slippery road. Very hazardous if engine dies while driving.

At around 51,000 miles the ABS and vsc light came on. Lights went out 2 days later. It would come on intermittently about every other month for about 2 days then go out. Took it to my mechanic and he found no codes stored. Now it has 100,00 miles and the light stays on. Took it to a Toyota dealer and was told the skid control ECU needs replaced. Was told it was a common problem for my year Sequoia. I was told then that when the lights are on, the functions do not work. I feel this has been a safety issue that Toyota has been aware of but has done nothing to correct.
Brake light indicator intermittently came on over several months (Jan - May 2011) and at various speeds. Sometimes at startup, other times at hwy speed. Since fluid was full and clean, did not take car in right away. Mentioned to dealer at 60K mi. Svc to diagnose. Toyota dealer diagnosed the source of the problem was a malfunctioning "electronic skid computer." Cost $122 to diagnose and $1120 to replace. I understand this computer controls the stability control and ABS systems, so it is a potential safety hazard.
2005 2wd Toyota Sequoia limited has the following warning lights on while the engine is running: Vsc, trac-off, ABS, engine light. The vehicle will stall if you try to accelerate, and it will not go over 50 mph, as if having no power. My Sequoia is a real safety problem on the road. Until Toyota stand behind their products, they are just a pathetic car company with bogus quality image.
My 2005 Toyota Sequoia has had issues for the past several years in accelerating. The vehicle does not get engaged and it almost stops moving for a second until the vehicle stability control kicks in. Today the light went off again vsc trac and the problems continue.
When driving our 2005 Toyota Sequoia SR5 limited, sometimes while going straight but usually after a turn, the vehicle stability control light (little skidding car icon) flashes on the dashboard and all power is lost - you cannot accelerate. In addition, a severe grinding sound is heard, some of the time, when slowing to turn (not using brake pressure). This stalling has occurred since the vehicle was new. The dealer said it was a defective throttle body and replaced it. This did not solve the problem. Any subsequent time I asked them to check it out, they said they could not find anything wrong. Now it is happening several times a day. This past weekend, alone, we experienced this problem at least 5 times while driving. I, previously, contacted Toyota Corp. And their response was that they will put my information into their files, but have no reports of any such incidents. However, looking on the internet, the 2003 Sequoia was recalled for this same problem. We are concerned that we are going to have a collision, due to a power loss: As when this happens, there is no way to get out of traffic or avoid other vehicles. It is a serious issue that I think Toyota is aware of but does not want to address. Looking at several Toyota forums on the internet, this is an issue with this vehicle for most owners. It appears that this is an issue that Toyota needs to address.
Started car and hear a loud whining noise but no lights came on. Within 2 days the whining noise was not heard when starting car but trac off, vsc light, and check engine light were all on. Took the truck to mechanic and he changed the battery and flushed the brake fluid. Lights were off for about 2 more starts of the truck and all lights were back on. Took it back to the mechanic the next day and he kept the truck for 2 days, called Toyota and they told him to replace the air injection driver. This was done 12 Nov 10 and by 13 Nov 10 all lights are back on again and the truck is having issues picking up speed.
This has been going on since April 2010, its now November 2010 with no resolution. My 2005 Toyota Sequoia trac off, vsc trac, check engine lights and ABS lights keep coming on. Brought into the dealer three times while the lights were on so the dealer could put it on the computer. No codes show up. I am told that it's not covered even though we have the Toyota certified bumper to bumper warranty. They recalled the 2003 for the same problem. They need to do the same for the 05. Repair cost for this is $2200.
While driving my 2005 Toyota Sequoia the brake light and vsc trac lights come on for no reason. I took my car to the dealership to get it repaired and they tightened the emergency brake. 5 minutes down the road it came back on, so I took the car back and they said it needed a new brake computer system, so we replaced it, that evening the lights came on again and now they are saying I need a new power brake booster. I don't think they know what is going on, one of the guys admitted he knew this was a problem but B/C not enough people have complained their has not been a recall. So the car is still not fixed and we worry about our families safety. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Trac off, vsc trac and brake light on. All three lights come and go at will. I had simlar problem during warranty. For last 2 years it has come and gone. But this time it is more on than off for last 10 days.
Brake warning light comes on periodicaly. Vsc light shows on and off. All three lights come on and off. Traction control is activated without warning. I am reluctant to take in to the shop, since many of the compaints have spent much $$ and no results. This is very similar to the issue the 2003 models were having, which Toyota recalled the problem. This needs to be addressed on all models and all years that are affected. This vehicle is used by my wife and three kids. It is stressful knowing that this vehicle could potentially harm my family.
Vsc/ABS skid control ECU failure, the problems we have observed since this has occurred and after 3 times of taking the car into the dealership we have been told the ECU is failing? 1. the car actually froze up 2. instrument panel lights remained illuminated. 3. the brakes failed on one occasion and quickly came back, but made metal grinding noise. 4. at various times the ABS kicked in even though the brakes were not applied 5. SUV did not properly respond to brake or steering 6. the car occasionally thinks that we are skidding out of control and begins pulsating the brakes 7. while backing out of the driveway the brakes engaged. If you google Toyota Sequoia and ECU or vsc or ABS you will not many people have complained about this issue. In all instances stopping and restarting the car has reset the lights and the issue went away.
Frequently the stabilization control in my 2005 Toyota Sequoia activates while turning corners. This virtually shuts the vehicle down for a moment before allowing me to accelerate again. This happens most often when completing turns with a drainage gutter but has also occurred when the road was flat. I have come close to be hit due to this but have avoided a crash thus far. I believe this to be very similar to what is being explained in the 2003 recall but I believed it to be isolated until now.
The brake light constantly goes on and off. I notice the light permanently stays on after leaving the freeway when the engine slows down (not even stepping on the brakes yet). Then, the light doesn't disappear until after the engine is powered off. We brought the vehicle in when in warranty and stated the problem. The first 3 years, all they did was inspect the brake system but nothing was done. We were verbally given an example what they did for a previous customer (changed all the sensors and the system board) but still no fix. At the last service check, another service rep said, don't worry about it because we checked the brakes and they're okay and this is a common problem. These last two weeks (off and on) at the intersection waiting for the red light to turn green, I notice the brake lights are on and suddenly the engine is trying to accelerate and then it stops.
2005 Toyota Sequoia trac off, vsc trac, and check engine lights all came on suddenly on vehicle with 62K miles. Understand this is common problem and that Toyota has recognized this as a common problem with these vehicles but will not correct. Cost to correct is $1,500 - $2,700.
