LANE DEPARTURE SYSTEM SAYS "OFF" IN THE STATUS SCREEN, HOWEVER IT IS TURNED ON IN THE MENU SYSTEM. LANE DEPARTURE IS DEFINITELY "OFF" AND NOT BEEPING OR CORRECTING STEERING WHEN DEPARTING THE LANE.....SYSTEM WORKED FINE UNTIL YESTERDAY, DURING SNOW, I GOT AN ERROR FOR PARKING ASSIST. THIS WAS ASSUMED TO BE A PROBLEM BECAUSE OF SNOW BUILDING UP ON RADAR SENSORS IN FRONT OF CAR....BUT SNOW HAD BEEN CLEARED OFF AND THAT PROBLEM DIDN'T SHOW UP AGAIN.

THE REALLY DANGEROUS PART OF THIS IS THAT THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT IS TURNED OFF, UNLESS YOU HAPPEN TO BE ON THE SCREEN THAT SHOWS THE STATUS OF THAT SYSTEM. BUT THE SYSTEM IS TURNED ON, BUT STATUS SHOWS AS OFF, IF ON THE STATUS SCREEN.

Update from Apr 16, 2016: I can say, that before and after the snow, this situation hasn't happened again. This tells me the build up of snow on the front bumper sensors caused the lane departure system to turn off and would have to be manually turned on via the switch on the dash - it is a hard switch next to the dash light dimmer switch.

The hard part to grasp is that it would turn that off, because of snow build up, and not turn back on. I also know that it is deceiving because if you go into the menu and check about lane departure, it shows on and set to normal sensitivity - yet the system is off. That is a concern. And you don't realize the little tiny icon on the little tiny display is not lit as it would be if turned on.

I think the onus is on Toyota to re-write the software that re-engages lane departure on next start of vehicle vs. leaving it off....the chances of most people having to tow something and turn it off each time they re-started is way less than those who will never tow anything and have no reason to turn it off.
