I was driving my 2023 Toyota XSE Hybrid on the freeway at a speed of 70 miles per hour when I suddenly heard a sound like a gunshot. There was no traffic near me, so I pulled off the freeway to investigate but found nothing. When I got back on the freeway, I heard air coming in through a window, but all my windows were closed. I opened the fabric cover of the sunroof and to my surprise, I saw that the sunroof glass was completely shattered. It was really shocking and even traumatic!
If it had been an object falling, the glass would have indicated it, but this was definitely explosive, like a volcano from the inside out. I went straight to the dealer, and they told me the warranty didn't cover it. They gave me an estimate of $3,500 to repair it. My insurance company (GEICO) only covered $150 if I decided to leave it at the dealer. The other option is to have it repaired by the insurance company's glass company. Right now, I'm waiting for an appointment to get it fixed. I would like to know if anyone has had a similar experience or if there is a lawsuit on the issue?
