I purchased a new 2019 RAV4 XLE in December, 2019. In May I noticed an engine hesitation, engine noise and a hot smell for a few seconds. In late May, I received a letter for Recall Number 20V064000 from Toyota to check for defective engine blocks. I took it in to the dealership for my 5000 mile checkup June 4, 2020. I am one of the "lucky" 250 Toyota owners who has to have their engine replaced. The worst of it is that Toyota does not have any engines in stock and will not provide an eta for an engine to be produced or shipped. No one can even tell me if they are going to replace with a short or long block or an assembly engine.
The RAV4 has been sitting at the dealership since June 4th as they say it is not safe to drive, and I have a Camry for a loaner. I do not like the idea of the entire front end of my almost new vehicle being dismantled and reassembled due to a defect on their part. Since this is such a major recall, I asked for a new vehicle, but neither the dealership where I purchased it or Toyota are listening. So I am in limbo, as Toyota and the dealership are saying it could take 1 to 2 months or more to get a new engine. And even when they do install the engine, my maintenance and Carfax reports will show an engine replacement at 5500 miles - not exactly what you want to have on it when you are selling the car.
