I was driving on the highway on cruise and motor just started revving, so I pulled it to the side of the highway and it would not move. I got out and could see fluid coming out when I looked under the Rav. It was leaking out a weep hole between motor and transmission. When I googled it, a guy had a video of the very same thing - he said it was a bad input bearing which allows the input shaft to move around destroying the seals in torque converter, allowing the fluid to leak.
It looks as if it is a common trouble and should be under drive train warranty 100000km 5 years. It is bad this happened, but it is worse 27 days later and Toyota Canada can't figure what to do. The first couple of weeks the dealership kept telling me they couldn't do anything because Toyota Canada need pictures of transmission. Today I was told there not sure if they are going to replace transmission or rebuild old one either way it will be a few more weeks before I get it back.
My last 5 vehicles were new Toyota's. Not so sure I will have another. I paid extra for quality and service.
VERY DISAPPOINTED TOYOTA OWNER
Update from Oct 10, 2021: Replaced transmission torque converter, and cooler under warranty. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a garage - 47 DAYS to have my transmission replaced. I called dealership where I bought the RAV4 and they said they could do nothing to speed up repair, because it was not at their garage, so I called Toyota Canada they said there was nothing they could do. When I got it back 47 days later it had a dent in the rear door. Service rep took a picture of it and said they would get back to me, still waiting a month later for the call.
