I bought this 2018 Toyota RAV4 in August 2022 after keeping a Honda Civic 2001 on life support, figuring since it had been a lease vehicle, I'd have fewer problems. Even coughed up more for an extended warranty. So I was taking my daughter to her job and with it being 100 degrees outside, she cranked up the AC, and the car started sputtering after a mile. I immediately turned off the AC and the car was fine. Dropped her off, started driving away, got about 200' and the car died. I was able to limp to the Target parking lot, sat for awhile, started off again... got about 1-1/2 and the car died again. I was done.
I called Freeman Toyota, told them the sad tale, called AAA to arrange a tow. Guy came in record time BUT DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS, I COULDN'T RIDE WITH HIM. So he drives away with my car, luckily getting there in time. I can't find a ride, so I walk home...in sandals. 100 degree heat. So. Much. Fun.
Next day, Freeman car mechanic tells me "someone over-filled the gas which went into the smog vent hose, taking out the charcoal canister and purge valve (and sends me a video) so they need to replace the canister and vacuum (the?) valve and since it's "outside influences," it's not covered by warranty. Apparently, even though I've been pumping my own gas for 35+ years, I don't know how anymore? And now I need to pull $1562 outta my gluteus orifice.
