I was stopped at a red light and engine suddenly died. The Electrical System Malfunction light on the dash came on. There were cars stacked up behind me so I put on emergency flashed, shifted into park and restarted the engine. At the next light it idled roughly but kept running. I was just waiting for it to die again and leave me stranded in the middle of a busy street ;(

This is not what I expect from a new car with less than 15K miles, or from a Toyota! I made it home and will be bringing it into the dealer for a check up but from what I can see on here they really don't know the root of the problem. Between this and hearing about their run away cars a few years back, I'm really starting to think Toyota can't get their electrical systems in proper order. If it happens again I will not be buying another Toyota! A car dying in traffic or on the freeway can get you killed in southern California!

I took the vehicle in several times. The first time I was told there was water in my gas, even though two other vehicles got gas at the same station. They did something to semi fix the problem. I brought it in a couple more times and was told they could not find anything wrong. Again on service checks still nothing wrong even though it leaked gas on my driveway. I had to have the vehicle towed twice for this issue, the last time I no longer felt safe to drive the car, afraid someone would rear end me.

They had the car for two days and finally said it was the charcoal canister that needed to be replaced. I find it hard to believe that other people were having the same issue. People mentioned it could be the battery, alternator or alternator belt. We will see if this fixes the problem, because if it stalls again it will be towed to Toyota and will ask for a new car.
