high wind noise, driver's door, over 40mph
My brand new Rav4 Limited had an annoying wind noise problem right off the lot in the driver's door.. My wife said it was also quite apparent as heard from the front passenger seat.
A dealer technician rode with me down the freeway and agreed it was a problem. They ordered a new driver's door seal. It took over a month to come from Japan. The parts finally arrived about the time of the 5,000 mile new car checkup, so I scheduled both events at the same appointment. The Service agent who set up the appointment over the phone didn't hit the SAVE button, or something, as they had no record of the prearranged appointment when I got there. After 4-1/2 hours in the waiting room, they finally finished. The first thing I did upon driving off the lot was to drive a section of freeway at speed to check the repair. The problem was still there - they obviously did not test drive the vehicle to see if the repair worked.
Both before and after the non-fix, I could place the fingertips of my left hand to the upper left corner of the inside of the glass and get the noise to stop. Where I was touching, I could feel the rubber door seal, but I was also touching junction of glass to door frame area. The noise must be coming from the window seal. Very hard to differentiate where the noise is coming from. I guess the dealer can be forgiven for not figuring it out. It goes back in the shop this weekend. Will report on the results.
