This is becoming a more common complaint. I live in an area where it is very flat. So when we went to Arkansas and Oklahoma where there are inclines and hills we found big issue. The problem is that if you have your cruise set at over 75 (this happened 75 - 82 mph setting) and you go up any incline that may require the cruise to downshift it will downshift hard and cause your engine to rev up to 3000-5000 RPM's (it should cruise at 80 with RPM's around 2400). If it goes to the 5000 range it may become a real issue. The problem lies in that it will not up shift when upshift and the RPM;s do not go down this will cause you gas mileage to decrease tremendously. My trip was was 280 miles one way on the interstate at a cruise setting of 75-82. I got 22.5 miles per gallon. When you don't have inclines and the cruise works (you will need to be under 75 on flat interstate) it got 29 miles per gallon. Serious issue and can no longer reccomend the Toyota Brand.
Update from Jan 20, 2017: I took the vehicle to the dealer and told them they would not be able to replicate because we have no hills within 100 miles. They said they would check it out. Sure enough they said works just like it is suppose to. Nothing.
Update from Jan 20, 2017: today jan 20,2017 Toyota Motor contacted me. They are very concerned and are opening a case. A case MGR will contact me for more information.
